This past weekend I drove up to Fredericksburg, VA to see my dad and step mom for Memorial Day weekend. Saturday night we went to the Fredericksburg National Cemetery to see the 22nd annual luminaria. Local boy scouts spend all of Saturday lighting 15,300 candles to pay tribute for every fallen soldier buried there, and every 30 minutes taps was played to honor the fallen.
That is incredible! Your images capture this beautiful sentiment honoring our fallen soldiers. I love the light in the middle photo but the first image definitely can feel the tone of this moment.

Becca, your use of dramatic light and your framing sensibilities are spot on for invoking a sense of reverence and remembrance. I’m drawn most to the last image. You did a great job showing the bigger picture and details. I’m glad you shared all three images instead of just one. If you had only posted one image, which one would you have chosen?

Thanks Nicole! I was actually thinking about posting just one but I couldn’t decide. I guess I would choose the second one because it kind of shows how many candles were lit that night.
